Position Introduction
SWG Solution Architecture Group – The Team
SWG Solution Architecture Group provides independent technology and business advice to internal business units, primarily the PMO to:
• Make the most of the data, digital assets, technology and people
• Reduce technology acquisition, implementation and operating costs
• Transform the way that technology supports their organisation to make a ‘step change’ in business performance and return on investment
• Design and deliver successful technology projects and programmes
Build competence in specialized information technology domains such as identity management, big data management, business intelligence and related
• IT Strategy & Leadership: helping clients to shape the technology agenda that will enable the business strategy to be delivered
• Applications Advisory: providing advice to clients on the selection and implementation of packaged software, such as SAP
• Architecture: providing enterprise, solution and technical architecture advice and guidance to our clients throughout the transformation
• Programme Delivery: acting as a delivery partner, to help clients plan, manage and deliver across the full IT delivery lifecycle, from development of the business case, through vendor selection, design, build, test, implementation and operation of the new IT capabilities
Duties and Responsibilities
• Trusted technical advisor in promoting the cause of technology, and of specific technologies, in order to achieve buy-in from the company's management and IT communities, seeking to create new opportunities as well as advance existing sales efforts.
• Responsibility for translating client business requirements into specific system, application or process designs. This includes working with client personnel and executives to identify functional requirements and subsequently working with and leading others in the identification, justification and design of the client's solution.
• Creating solution blueprints for projects, presenting them and reviewing them with all system architecture groups (database, operations, and core systems)
• Responsibility to apply significant knowledge across multiple platforms, as well as broad knowledge of new technologies, the competitive landscape and have the required proficiency skill levels to analyze the customer's business and IT challenges and design a comprehensive solution that integrates smoothly into the customer's environment, is checked carefully for reliability, availability and scalability, and leverages the entire organizational portfolio in order to increase solution/product market share
• Mentor and provide guidance to team members, and anticipating potential problems associated with the solution being developed.
• Develop and lead execution of the technical risk management plan for solutions to be implemented.
• Understand future customer, industry and information technology trends and apply this understanding to develop robust solutions and to identify opportunities for future business and lead selection of methodologies, tools and components of total IT solutions.
• Provide support and recommendations to business analysts in creating functional specifications for assigned projects
Educational Requirements and Work Experience
• Bachelors or Masters in Technology Process Engineering, Computer Science and/or information technology or related numerate discipline.
• 3+ years of driving solution architecture design
• 5+ years of overall IT / software development experience
• Broad knowledge of IT infrastructure architecture including data centres, corporate networks and cloud computing
• Experience in at least two of the following architectural domains - Mobile Application Architecture, Enterprise Web Application Architecture, Infrastructure & Network Security
• Experience working in public sector organizations
• Valid industry certifications, particularly those in enterprise architecture such as ITAC, COBIT, TOGAF, CEA, Zachmanns, etc would be highly desirable.

• Excellent communication skills (written and spoken)
• Able to work across functional/cultural barriers
• Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills
• Experience with software engineering body of knowledge (SWEBOK)
• Proven expertise in implementation and supervision of RAD (rapid application development) cycles
• Proven expertise in software architectural design and programming
• Ability to update technical knowledge regularly
• Excellent research skills
• Experience in strategic and long range planning with proven ability to communicate and
• implement plans
